How to Measure Your Cap Size (Chart Included)

Importance of Wearing the Right Size

When you first start out wearing wigs, it can be a bit overwhelming. There are so many options and styles that it can be hard to find the right wig for you! One of the most important parts of choosing a wig is knowing the correct cap size. The cap size is literally the inside of the cap that the human hair is attached too. Why is this important? If your cap is too small, the wig won’t fit on your head. Think of wearing a baseball hat that’s too small. The front of the wig won’t come down to cover your natural hairline. On the other side, if the cap is too big, the hairline won’t sit seamlessly. You may end up with bunching of the cap at the sides or at the crown of your head. Wearing the right size cap is essential to a seamless install.

What Sizes are Available

Understanding the options available is another important part. Most companies will offer a small, medium, or large cap. Medium caps are the most commonly sold of the different wig cap sizes. It’s crucial to know that not all companies will have the same sizes for the same type. A medium at one company may not be a medium here at Virtuous Beauty. For that reason, it’s a good idea to look at the cap chart size of the company to ensure their caps will fit.

How to Measure Your Head

This is a quick guide on how to measure your head to determine which cap size will fit best. Ensure that you always measure in inches. Also, it’s best to take your measurements with your natural hair styled in the way you plan to style it underneath the wig. So, if you will wear a wig cap underneath your wig with your hair in a bun, it’s best to style your hair like that before taking your measurements.

  1. Measure your circumference – This is all the way around your head. Think of where the edges of the wig will sit. It’s best to give 1 inch extra so the wig won’t be too tight.
  2. Temple – Measure from your one ear to the other ear going around the back of your head. You want to measure from just in front of your hairline where the wig would sit.
  3. Front to Nape – Measure from your hairline in the middle of your forehead to your nape (the middle of the back of your neck) Do not pull too tightly, you want to leave a little room for this measurement.

Write down all your measurements for each of the three steps. Below you will see the sizing chart for the wig collection at Virtuous Beauty. Remember if you’re between sizes, it’s best to go up a size.

Conclusion

Wig caps are a crucial part of the wig you chose. Wearing a wig with a cap that is not the correct size for your head can be the difference between a natural install and a very obvious wig look. It’s important to know which size you require and ensure you check the measurements from any beauty boutique you purchase a wig from. Not all companies have the same measurements per size.
