Top Braiding Patterns for Sew-Ins

No two braid patterns for sew-in hair extensions are the same, and each of them serves a different purpose based upon the final looking you are trying to achieve. However, all of them should allow for a seamless hair extension install, it’s key to ensure your tracks stay flat. We have a few extra tips before we dive into the braid patterns


Tips for a seamless Sew-in

  1. Shampoo, condition and deep condition prior to braiding your natural hair.
  2. If your hair is relaxed, wait at least a week before installing a sew-in.
  3. Trim your ends to maximize hair growth.
  4. Blow dry your hair with a blow dryer to achieve an easier braiding experience.
  5. Don’t make your braids too tight
  6. Ensure you moisturize your scalp to promote hair growth.

Basic Braiding Pattern

This is your basic straight back cornrow. This is the most basic braid pattern that is great for crochet braids. It doesn’t allow for much versatility but it can be used easily.

U-Part/Crossover Pattern

This pattern involves traditional cornrows except that multiple parts of the braid cross over into another one.


You’ll start with a straight cornrow, and then cross the braids in the middle. This pattern gives a more natural look to the leave-out. Here are also really great for our bundles

Micro Braiding Pattern

This braid pattern uses much smaller cornrows, resulting in tighter braids. This method is best suited for straight hairstyles. 

Beehive Braiding Pattern

To achieve this braiding pattern, you braid your hair in a circle until the end is in the middle of your head. This pattern does not offer much versatility when it comes to styling, but it can work for curly hair or for bangs that won’t need to be parted
